Bupa Cancer Radiotherapy

There are various types of cancers and not all phases of cancer development needs to be treated with radiotherapy, for instance at the Bupa Cancer Radiotherapy center the first stage of breast cancer is just a question of a simple removal surgery. However, if the lump from the patient’s breast is not removed it can further develop into a more advanced stage during which radiation therapy will be needed to remove it.

There are a number of reasons why you would want to visit Bupa cancer radiotherapy if you suspect that you have cancer or if you have been diagnosed with it:

  • They have one of the best Oncological surgeons on their team
  • Many of the surgeons have many years of experience treating cancer patients
  • They have a higher than average success rate in cancer cases
  • In addition they also provide clinical support services

There are three types of radiation therapies which are performed at the Bupa cancer radiotherapy center i.e.:

  • Gamma Knife surgery
  • Brachytherapy
  • TomoTherapy

Bupa Cancer radiotherapy - Brachtherapy

Also known as Permanent Seed Implant Therapy this is a widely accepted form of therapy in Europe and America and is preferred for treatment in the early stages of prostate cancer. This type of therapy uses state of the art planning and computer software in order to plant radioactive seeds into the patient’s prostate. The therapy will require that the doctor implants anywhere from around 50 to 110 seeds which contain iodine and are inserted via needles into the perineum.

Bupa cancer radiotherapy – Gamma Knife Surgery

This is regarded as being one of the most effective forms of treatment for both multiples brain and single brain metastases. These can occur as being ‘secondaries’ in many patients who have melanomas, lung cancer and breast cancer. But despite the term ‘knife’ being used this is a non-invasive form of treatment in which many patients haven’t even reported pain.

The state of the art equipment at Bupa uses 192 beams of radiation which go into a rather small volume with excellent precision.  This allows for the tumors which are deep inside of sensitive areas of the brain to be easily treated with little or no risk of further complications or damage to some healthy tissue. In addition the Gamma Knife treatment perfected by Bupa is also used for other forms of non-malignant and malignant tumors and cancers.

Bupa Cancer radiotherapy – Tomo Therapy

Tomo Therapy is probably the most advanced and well integrated form of cancer treatment today. The Tomo Therapy system itself is new and revolutionary; it offers a new and more effective way to treat cancer using radiation. With the help of this system the doctor is able to check the exact location of the tumor prior to treating it. The treatment usually requires a rather painless and exact beam of radiation being focused on the area. However, a treatment plan will first need to be customized prior to the state of the art Hi Art system being used on the patient.
